Bash News 2007 Dave Skertchly hands keys to Ed Tippelt 17/3/07 Dave Skertchly joined the BASH Group on 11th March 1998, and handed over his keys to Ed Tippelt almost exactly 9 years later on 17th March 2007. Despite being dubbed by his flying instructor "Dodgy Dave" he has flown the Channel as P1 in G-BASH over 100 times, and taken trips to France, Biarritz, Ireland and Germany. These pages detail the Bashers exploits and Dave was usually one of the G-BASH crew. Above Dave Skertchly right hands over keys to Ed Tippelt Over the years he has consistently denied writing the BASH News, claiming that he could not possibly associated with a journal whose motto is "if you don't have the facts just make them up!". Loyalty among the Bashers has remained at its usual levels, with advice being given to Ed to "make sure you get his dip stick off him!". Dave is now half owner of a Grumman PA28 G-ATIS with Solent Strut friend Malcolm Barton. The Aeroplane is based at Lee on Solent, Dave's house is positioned on Right base for runway 23 so he can almost walk to the Airfield. You can catch up with their exploits on www.g-atis.co.uk Above: Dave Skertchly has progressed to a half share of PA28 G-ATIS based at Lee on Solent Dave Leddy the Stick in the Mud 14/1/07 As I am writing G-BASH is stuck at Bembridge; Dave Leddy had the Left Hand brake fail on landing. Thanks to good flying he didn’t find out until he turned to back track. After turning 450 degrees he ran gently off the runway onto the grass which, as luck would have it, was boggy and stopped the aeroplane with no damage. The guys at Bembridge will need to extract it from the mud and fix the brake. In Dave’s own words he always was an old stick in the mud!
Just a thought, as a Dodgy old AA5 flyer I was always taught on my downwind checks to chant “Brakes holding pressure” rather than “brakes off” but then Wayne taught me quite a number of non-standard procedures like how to land downwind when you are desperate for fag....happy days.
